The Raiders did not so much draft KJ Jefferson as overpay for him, 72 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
That Skattebo pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Jalen Milroe gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a franchise quarterback, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Xavier Watts was still sitting there in slot 68, and they pounced on premier safety value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Jihaad Campbell still on the board at No. 73. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tai Felton slipping to pick 106 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 5 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at pick 178 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jordan Hancock in the 212th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A real head-scratcher, KJ Jefferson in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
