Thirty-one other rooms let Jeffrey Bassa slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery.
They are betting Howard proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in Round 2, Pick 5, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in pick No. 68, with Dylan Fairchild worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Will Howard in the 73rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Demetrius Knight Jr. at slot 106 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
Cam Skattebo at pick 178 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Jeffrey Bassa at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Jordan Hancock in pick No. 216 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They read the board right and Jared Wilson was the payoff at slot 222. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
