You could see the war room lean forward. Jacob Cowing at pick 171 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Williams lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Laiatu Latu at pick No. 22. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
T.J. Tampa at the 50th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: Roger Rosengarten at the 120th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for James Williams in pick 161; a little patience would have been rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Cowing at No. 171 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Decamerion Richardson in slot 172, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
