Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Eagles will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
The cost of the Melton reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Goncalves falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Rome Odunze, who had no business lasting to slot 22. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Edgerrin Cooper in pick 50 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They liked Max Melton enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 53. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 120, where Matt Goncalves graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, James Williams a notch or two before his time. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
By-the-book stuff, Jaheim Bell at Round 5, Pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Decamerion Richardson at the 172nd pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
