Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jarrian Jones got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at slot 161.
The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Williams pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th overall pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in No. 53. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Javon Baker in the 88th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at linebacker with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tykee Smith in pick No. 169. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Kamal Hadden went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trente Jones in Round 5, Pick 36 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
