The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Eagles watched Hollin Pierce slide 48 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Marshall Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Kenneth Grant was the payoff at the 36th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let TreVeyon Henderson come to them and pounced at slot 64. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Donovan Jackson in No. 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Elijah Arroyo at Round 3, Pick 32 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Darius Alexander in the 162nd pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Hollin Pierce all the way to pick No. 166, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Jason Marshall Jr. at pick 173, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Theo Wease Jr. at the 236th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
