When a board-topper like Max Melton slides to slot 178, you do not overthink it, and the Eagles did not. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Adding Ka'dar Hollman by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.18
· Pick 18
· Cooper DeJean
· CB
· rank 13
In pick No. 18 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.20
· Pick 20
· Dallas Turner
· LB-EDGE
· rank 14
Dallas Turner at the Round 1 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.27
· Pick 59
· Xavier Legette
· WR
· rank 36
Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 27 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.22
· Pick 85
· Xavier Worthy
· WR
· rank 42
Xavier Worthy at slot 85 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.34
· Pick 97
· Junior Colson
· LB
· rank 75
Circle this one: Junior Colson at pick 97 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.24
· Pick 160
· Daijun Edwards
· RB
· rank 132
Somehow Daijun Edwards was still sitting there in No. 160, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.34
· Pick 170
· Kamal Hadden
· CB
· rank 138
The board fumbled Kamal Hadden all the way to the 170th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.3
· Pick 178
· Max Melton
· CB
· rank 111
They barely believed it either: Max Melton still on the board at the 178th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.16
· Pick 236
· Jalen Green
· S
· rank 212
Jalen Green at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.20
· Pick 240
· De'Corian Clark
· WR
· rank 200
You do not let a wide receiver like De'Corian Clark reach pick No. 240 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
