You can draft well and still miss the point. The Eagles did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Every board in the league had Tate lower, and that gap is the story. They banked enough surplus on Tupuola-Fetui to cover a lot of smaller sins.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 50th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor itch, scratched.
They jumped the gun on Zach Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Jaden Hicks enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 97. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dallin Holker at Round 5, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Cody Schrader at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
A premium they did not need to pay, Michael Barrett a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They let Zion Tupuola-Fetui come to them and pounced at No. 178. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Demorie Tate at the 243rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
