Whoever sat across the table from the Raiders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They banked enough surplus on Gore Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Budda Baker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Quinyon Mitchell in the 35th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Paul in No. 44 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Johnny Wilson at the 77th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Leonard Taylor III. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in Round 5, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
