The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Lander Barton, the No. 124 name on the board, in No. 216. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The cost of the Rourke reach is exactly the players who went right after him. With edge rusher, cornerback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had Jalon Walker higher than No. 37, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at slot 68. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Kurtis Rourke at Round 3, Pick 9, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Barrett Carter while clear needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat open.
You do not let a safety like Kevin Winston Jr. reach pick No. 142 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cam Skattebo in the 178th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Nick Nash in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Lander Barton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
