Somebody in No. 180 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while LeQuint Allen, the No. 133 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Every board in the league had McWilliams lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jihaad Campbell went about where he belonged in pick 37. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A slide stopped in the 68th pick, with Elic Ayomanor worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sebastian Castro at Round 4, Pick 6 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Will Howard in pick No. 143 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for LeQuint Allen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Karene Reid in No. 213 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Mac McWilliams at slot 215 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Craig Woodson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
