The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Shedeur Sanders, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
That Giddens pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton in the 37th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Elic Ayomanor at the Round 3 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Tai Felton in pick No. 108 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 143 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dorian Strong at No. 180 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Upton Stout in the 213th pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jay Higgins at pick 215 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
DJ Giddens in pick No. 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
