The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Shedeur Sanders, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Sauls has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Sauls pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at pick No. 37. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in the 68th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Ben Sauls adds a specialist while edge rusher keeps waiting.
Emery Jones Jr. in Round 5, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Mitchell Evans in the 180th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled DJ Giddens all the way to pick 213, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Torricelli Simpkins III at slot 215 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Jackson a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
