The Raiders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tommy Mellott at the Round 7 slot regardless, 127 picks early.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Henderson. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach for JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 37; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Jihaad Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Maxwell Hairston went about where he belonged in the 73rd pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Andrew Mukuba at pick 106 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Kyle Williams in pick No. 178 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Theo Wease Jr. at par in the 212th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Will Sheppard at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tommy Mellott well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
