Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jeffrey Bassa got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 216. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
The cost of the Rourke reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
So much rides on Tetairoa McMillan that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Benjamin Morrison at the 37th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Omarion Hampton in pick No. 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kurtis Rourke in the 68th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in Round 5, Pick 5 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cam Skattebo at pick 178 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 212 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Jeffrey Bassa all the way to No. 216, and they scooped it up. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They reached a country mile for Nick Nash at Round 7, Pick 6, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
