When a board-topper like Kalel Mullings slides to the 216th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Raiders did not.
If Greene III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
The board fumbled Malaki Starks all the way to pick No. 37, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at Round 3, Pick 4 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jihaad Campbell adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher, cornerback and other spots untouched.
They talked themselves into Earnest Greene III at the 107th pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 179th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Logan Parr at No. 212 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Kalel Mullings was still sitting there in slot 216, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Jay Higgins in the 222nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
