The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Cam Skattebo, Round 6, Pick 41, roughly 102 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Reaching for Howard left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Fair-plus on Jihaad Campbell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kaleb Johnson at No. 69 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Will Howard at the 70th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 106 with a little surplus value in Tory Horton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Connor Colby in Round 5, Pick 9 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for DeMonte Capehart at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Sonny Styles at the 183rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen Travis well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Cam Skattebo in pick No. 216, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jay Higgins in Round 7, Pick 7 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
