When the story of this class is written, it opens with Spencer Rattler at pick No. 44, a reach of 73 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Devonshire where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
They reached into another round for Spencer Rattler, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at slot 77 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Mohamed Kamara at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Mason McCormick went about where he belonged in the 148th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on M.J. Devonshire, who had no business lasting to No. 208. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tyrice Knight at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
