The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Spending an early pick on cornerback with tight end and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kalen King in No. 56. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They took Gabriel Murphy at par in pick 87, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaden Hicks. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 24 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Kris Abrams-Draine while clear needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman sat open.
Grayson Murphy at the 148th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 160th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 165. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They paid sticker price for Aki Ogunbiyi in Round 6, Pick 4, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 212 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zakhari Franklin in slot 230 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
