Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Raiders spent pick No. 247 on Jaylon Hutchings, a name the board had a full 107 spots lower.
The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Michael Pratt at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Javon Bullard still on the board at slot 82. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 112 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; Logan Lee in the 148th overall pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Isaac Guerendo was still sitting there in the 156th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Erick All in pick 208 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Myles Murphy a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 223 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Keaton Bills in Round 7, Pick 7 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on J.J. Weaver at the 234th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Jordan Magee was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jaylon Hutchings at No. 247 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a running back like Frank Gore Jr. reach the 251st overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
