The Raiders clearly saw something nobody else did in Spencer Rattler, taking him 73 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They banked enough surplus on McGlothern to cover a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 17 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A real head-scratcher, Spencer Rattler in pick 44 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on T.J. Tampa, who had no business lasting to No. 59. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Blake Corum at par in the 77th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Cedric Gray at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dominick Puni in the 113th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at No. 147, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Cornelius Johnson at the 210th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jase McClellan at slot 211 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylan Ford at the 221st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 7, Pick 5 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Tahj Washington was still sitting there in pick 227, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
