The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cam Hart fell into the 158th pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Every board in the league had Sweat lower, and that gap is the story.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
In the 28th overall pick they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 30th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 21, where Xavier Legette graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Payton Wilson in pick No. 60 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Johnny Wilson at slot 88 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Donovan Edwards in No. 121 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at pick 127. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 158 is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
