The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Cam Ward, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They banked enough surplus on Shough to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Kuithe reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at the 37th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Quinshon Judkins. It fills a real need, too.
A tidy little value on Malachi Moore in slot 108, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They liked Tommi Hill enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 143. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Tyler Shough at pick 180 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Karene Reid here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Brant Kuithe at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ricky White III at Round 7, Pick 6 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
