The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Jake Majors, the No. 107 name on the board, sitting there at the 162nd overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Ratledge reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Shemar Stewart, who had no business lasting to the 32nd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid a round early for Tate Ratledge in Round 2, Pick 32, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Jack Bech was still sitting there in pick 96, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ajani Cornelius is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach the 162nd pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
They liked Ollie Gordon II enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 166. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Vernon Broughton at pick No. 169. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
