Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Marcellas Dial got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at pick 231.
Reaching for Tagovailoa left real value on the table behind him. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kris Jenkins at pick No. 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Spencer Rattler at the 77th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Fisher is a better player than Round 4, Pick 13 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They liked Andrew Raym enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 190. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taulia Tagovailoa at slot 221 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Marcellas Dial in No. 231 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
