The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jacob Cowing, the 241st overall pick, roughly 50 picks past where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Every board in the league had Mitchell lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
J.J. McCarthy at the 33rd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for TreVeyon Henderson in pick 86, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 4, Pick 22 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach on Cedric Gray in No. 138; the board had better options right there. A minor itch, scratched.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick No. 157 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tyler Guyton at the 161st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryce Foster. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kamal Hadden at the 179th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They will replay Ainias Smith at the 200th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jacob Cowing all the way to slot 241, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Mitchell in No. 243 is miles ahead of his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
