After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
Marshawn Kneeland in pick No. 97 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Zak Zinter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kalen King at Round 5, Pick 21 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Luke McCaffrey worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Grayson Murphy in the 177th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Dwight McGlothern in pick 198, plain and simple. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They will replay Jaylan Ford at the 230th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
