You could see the war room lean forward. Tyler Shough at pick 214 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They have staked the next five years on Jaxson Dart, which is the only story that really matters here. The Dart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a passer to set the clock by, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at the 68th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Cam Skattebo at the 73rd overall pick, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Ozzy Trapilo in slot 121 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 5: Jeffrey Bassa for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Kyren Lacy at No. 182 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Shough at pick No. 214 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in pick 218, with Alijah Huzzie worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Hancock in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
