The rest of the league will want that one back. Trente Jones tumbling to the Eagles in pick 222 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Walker lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in the 50th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach for Devontez Walker in Round 2, Pick 22; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Christian Jones in the 120th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brennan Jackson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dylan Laube in pick 161. It fills a real need, too.
Tykee Smith slid further than he should have, and slot 171 is lovely value for the safety. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaheim Bell at pick No. 172 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tahj Washington in No. 206 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 222nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
