The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Eagles walked right past. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
However the rest shakes out, Stover at that price is a win they earned. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 59th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A clean, defensible pick in the 97th overall pick with a little surplus value in Zak Zinter. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kedon Slovis at Round 5, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Cade Stover at No. 145 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in slot 172, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Theo Wease Jr. in the 178th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Eric Gentry is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
