The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Jayson Jones, 87 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Michael Penix Jr. is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The James pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on T.J. Tampa in the 44th pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and Payton Wilson was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Blake Fisher at the 113th overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: DJ James at No. 147 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Roger Rosengarten in Round 6, Pick 15 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jayson Jones in the 221st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
De'Corian Clark in Round 7, Pick 11 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
