Call it larceny. Colston Loveland sat on the board until the 216th pick, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice.
Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They are betting Greene III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a franchise quarterback, outstanding value to boot.
Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Derrick Harmon at No. 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Mike Green at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Earnest Greene III at slot 106 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 142nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in the 178th overall pick, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to Round 6, Pick 37, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Colston Loveland still on the board at pick 216. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach pick No. 222 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
