It is the swing that defines the weekend: Tykee Smith in pick No. 120, a good 29 spots before the room expected him.
On value alone, Guerendo makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and quarterback still on the board.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Nate Wiggins in Round 1, Pick 25, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Devontez Walker at pick No. 88, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tykee Smith in No. 120 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with edge rusher and quarterback open.
A running back of that caliber at slot 161 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Walter Rouse in No. 162 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Tip Reiman went about where he belonged in pick 171. The roster fit checks out.
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 175 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Bub Means at Round 6, Pick 35 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Logan Lee at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Daequan Hardy enough to skip the value, taking him in the 239th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
