Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Nobody had Drake Nugent this high, and it is not close. The Cardinals reached 27 spots to get him at the 133rd overall pick.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Walker steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 11
They paid up for Olumuyiwa Fashanu at the 2nd pick when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 27
In No. 21 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
No edge and no loss on Keon Coleman in pick 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 67
No drama and no debate, Ruke Orhorhoro went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Nazir Stackhouse · DL · rank 86
Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 70 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 87
They paid sticker price for TreVeyon Henderson in the 85th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 100
Graham Barton at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 160
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drake Nugent in the 133rd pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 123
They read the board right and Nehemiah Pritchett was the payoff at slot 139. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 146
Somehow Devontez Walker was still sitting there in No. 169, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Jahdae Barron · S · rank 187
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 23: Jahdae Barron for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 211
Bryson Nesbit at the 223rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Zy Alexander · CB · rank 221
Fair-plus on Zy Alexander, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
