You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Jalen Milroe at the Round 7 slot, roughly 18 spots before his name belonged.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Tyler Higbee deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jonah Elliss at par in slot 45, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 52nd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jason Marshall Jr. in No. 120. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Lathan Ransom at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fabien Lovett in pick No. 160 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Donovan Edwards, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 25. It fills a real need, too.
A reach for Ajani Cornelius in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jacob Cowing at pick 179 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalen Milroe at No. 241 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
