There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Ben Sinnott a full 79 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Torrence pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Kool-Aid McKinstry went about where he belonged in pick 22. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Ben Sinnott in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid a round early for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 53, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to No. 120, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nelson Ceaser in Round 5, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Isaiah Davis was the payoff at slot 171. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in the 172nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Ro Torrence still on the board at Round 6, Pick 35. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
