Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ricky Pearsall got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the Round 7 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Reaching for Corley left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a difference-maker at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Malachi Corley this early at slot 49. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Will Shipley at the 92nd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Beau Brade at the 117th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wild overpay on Payton Wilson in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at pick No. 154, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Ricky Pearsall was still sitting there in No. 234, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at the 238th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
