The Raiders bet big and early on Bryson Eason, 91 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Watts at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a workhorse for the backfield at fair value. A real need, handled.
They jumped the gun on Tre Harris, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Xavier Watts in pick 68 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kurtis Rourke at the 107th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Quincy Riley at No. 144 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took KeAndre Lambert-Smith at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bryson Eason in the 214th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Logan Parr at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Robert Longerbeam at pick 224. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
