The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Frazier pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get their quarterback of the future, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adisa Isaac. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T.J. Sanders in pick No. 157. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Steve Linton in pick 168, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Miles Frazier in No. 179, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Jack Howell in the 234th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster logic is harder to follow.
They paid up for Hayden Hatten at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Fentrell Cypress II at Round 7, Pick 35, value and slot in agreement. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Eric Gentry in the 256th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
