Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Raiders came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 17 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Bo Nix in pick No. 44, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Guyton at pick 48 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where D.J. James graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at the 112th pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in the 150th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Proctor in slot 190. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Jared Wiley, who had no business lasting to pick 211. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zakhari Franklin in the Round 7 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
