The rest of the league had time to spare on Frank Gore Jr.; the Vikings did not wait, grabbing him 76 spots ahead at pick 179. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Roberts steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
Troy Fautanu at slot 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Cooper DeJean was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 11. A minor itch, scratched.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Justin Rogers this early at the 112th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach on Jaylan Ford in pick No. 149; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Ben Sinnott at the 162nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Braden Fiske at par in No. 165, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Gore Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Willie Roberts in the 233rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
