The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jalen McMillan, Round 5, Pick 21, roughly 50 picks past where he belonged.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 16 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 23 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They let Kingsley Suamataia come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 17. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Theo Johnson in the 108th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Mahogany in No. 118 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Davis at pick 129 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jalen McMillan at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Cornelius Johnson in the 167th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at the 177th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, JD Bertrand in slot 230. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Deantre Prince, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
