Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Vikings spent the Round 5 slot on Curtis Jacobs, a name most had 31 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They went early on Blake Fisher in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Ainias Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 129. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty'Ron Hopper. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Curtis Jacobs at Round 5, Pick 31, well ahead of any board in the building. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Braiden McGregor in the 177th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 230, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Trevin Wallace at par in slot 232, which is nothing to complain about. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
