The Vikings did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jarrian Jones fell into pick 179.
The cost of the Hall reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Zak Zinter in slot 109, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
McKinnley Jackson in the 130th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Tommy Eichenberg higher than pick No. 156, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 30. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Jarrian Jones at the 179th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Gabe Hall at No. 190 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
