Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Nehemiah Pritchett got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Eagles clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Calen Bullock in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Roman Wilson was the payoff at the 91st overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Cedric Gray in pick No. 137; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on LaDarius Henderson. It fills a real need, too.
Nehemiah Pritchett at Round 5, Pick 36 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in the 178th pick: Kitan Oladapo for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
