The De'Corian Clark pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 36 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Watson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get an island corner, and a steal at that. More want than need.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 59; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Leonard Taylor III at the 85th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Malik Mustapha in No. 123, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They went early on Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A real head-scratcher, De'Corian Clark in Round 5, Pick 28 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Watson at slot 239. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Tanner McLachlan at Round 7, Pick 28, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
