The Raiders did not so much draft Decamerion Richardson as overpay for him, 94 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Christian Haynes at the 67th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Devontez Walker at pick 77 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mohamed Kamara at pick No. 112 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Spencer Rattler in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A premium they did not need to pay, Johnny Wilson a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Tyrone Tracy Jr. at No. 148 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaheim Bell in the 152nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Tyler Owens in the 223rd overall pick says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They talked themselves into Decamerion Richardson at pick 224, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
