When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jaylen Harrell at the 171st pick, a reach of 36 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Spending an early pick on linebacker with cornerback, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Nubin at slot 50. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 23 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves cornerback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylen Harrell in No. 171, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Walter Rouse in the 172nd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Kendall Milton at No. 210 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
