Boards are made to be trusted, and the Vikings shredded theirs for Trevor Keegan. He came off 47 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The back end got a real overhaul.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
A conviction pick on Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 11th pick that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
Byron Murphy II in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mohamed Kamara at No. 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 30, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Wright went about where he belonged in the 148th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Grayson Murphy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chau Smith-Wade at Round 5, Pick 29 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They reached a country mile for Trevor Keegan at pick 179, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zion Logue in the 230th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
