Asim Richards from Haverford High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Richards opted to join North Carolina.In 2019 as a freshman Richards saw action in 4 games and played a total of 47 snaps for the Tar Heels. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at left tackle, and the rest at tight tackle.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 12 games and a total of 730 snaps. He conceded an unipressive 20 QB hurries, 4 QB hits, and 7 sacks while playing at left tackle.
In 2021 as a junior Richards saw action in 13 games and totaled 695 snaps. He gave up 11 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and 5 sacks while playing most of his snaps at left tackle.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Richards gets off the snap quickly, and Richards is consistently able to generate movement at the point of attack, typically finishing those blocks strong.
- Has the feet to adjust when he anticipates what's coming. Effective trapping and bends at the knees with adequate core strength to absorb the bull rush. Can clear a path at the second level if he hits the target.
- Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front, and he shows an excellent understanding of angles when moving out as a run blocker.
- A smooth mover and covers a lot of ground, working hard to mirror rushers; agile and keeps his feet moving.
- Has the strong leg drive to create movement at the line of scrimmage, consistently putting defenders on the ground.
- Solid positional run blocker who flashes the nasty demeanor and killer instinct scouts covet.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Finesse blocker with average arm length who doesn't use his hands well to win at the point of attack.
- Not great in space and tends to lose power the farther Richards has to move; he doesn’t finish as well on the second level as he does battle in the phone booth around the line of scrimmage.
- For all of his physical gifts, often gets terribly sloppy, especially in pass protection.
